High Engagement

During the COVID-19 Pandemic, it was more important than ever to ensure college students felt connected and engaged in a digital space. The 2020 and 2021 KU TRIO SES & STEM end-of-year celebrations were moved to social media. I produced and edited a 30-minute video that premiered on Facebook so students, their parents, and the KU community could celebrate student success and the close of an academic year.

Strategic Announcement

Traditionally, powwows are held outside on the ground or in an arena with a dirt floor. In recent years, the KU First Nations Student Association has held their annual powwow on the Lied Center Stage, and prior to that, gyms and ballrooms on campus.

After years of request for an outdoor powwow, in 2022 it was moved outside but unfortunately onto a parking lot. The grounds for future years were still being prepared by the KU Grounds Crew.

For the 2023 Save The Date, I used previously recorded footage of the new grounds being prepared and used this opportunity to announce both the 2023 date and that KU is investing in a specific powwow space. Combining the announcement was a strategic tactic to not only increase the visibility of both messages, but because after the event, social media reach drops drastically.

Fundraising Tweet

The Center for Educational Opportunity Programs (CEOP) is home to federally funded programs but also has an endowed scholarship that supports KU students who have been served by a CEOP program.

The strategy centered on putting a face to the scholarship and donation. Most of the donors are former participants or fellow first-generation college graduates who understand the journey and financial challenges.

Innovative Content

How do you help high school students understand the FAFSA and college application process during a pandemic? TikTok. @FirstGenGuy is the TikTok persona I created with one of my colleagues.

My roles and responsibilities to produce the content were:

  • Adapt TikTok trends to educational access

  • Script / storyboard the TikTok

  • Film the TikTok

  • Edit the TikTok and add graphics or text

  • Publish TikTok and manage interactions
